Tenuta Masseto

“Masseto” comes from a single vineyard: only six hectares, where passion and dedication combine with talent and skill, to give life to the highest excellence, the result of obsession with every smallest detail , and daughter of a terroir so suited to the cultivation of vines.

Then the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, the flagship of what is the Bordeaux blend par excellence, undisputed queen of the Bolgheri area and of the great Italian red wines. Two brands, now famous throughout the world: two absolute "musts", conceived on parallel but currently very distinct paths, which have been traveling independently for years now, towards a future that promises to be more than rosy. A rosy future, but at the same time a past that has traveled inextricably on the same track for about two decades.

In fact, it was in 1981 that the Marquis Lodovico Antinori, cousin of Piero Antinori, founded the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, in the heart of the Bolgheri area. With the first harvest of 1985, what would become an icon among the SuperTuscans was born: Ornellaia, put on the market three years later, in 1988. After the inauguration of the cellar, the world-famous oenologist - Michel Rolland - began to take care of the technical part of the cellar. In the 90s the other two labels were born, "Le Volte" and "Le Serre Nuove". At the beginning of 2000, Robert Mondavi, the great Californian producer, acquired the estate, selling 50% to Marchesi de' Frescobaldi, who purchased the other 50% only three years later. The end of the 2000s also saw the birth of the "Poggio alle Gazze" label and the highly selected late harvest wine "Ornus", from pure petit manseng. A legendary winery, which wrote the history of Bolgheri.

If we return to Tenuta Masseto, however, 2019 is to be recorded as a memorable year, with April 12th to be marked in the diary as the date of inauguration of the new cellar, which was followed by the birth of the "Massetino", "second vin" of the Estate which in the autumn of the same year made its official entry into the international wine Olympus and could not be missing from our online wine shop.
