Les Chais Létourneau
Company founded in 1902 with an experience passed down through three generations of winemakers. Located in Burgundy, from the south to the north of Mâcon, in a region favourable to the production of white wine, the company has specialized in the production of quality sparkling wines and AOC white wines since 1950. For several years, the use of sulphites has been reduced and the desire is greater than anything else to increase actions towards sustainable development. They work by integrating the “HVE” quality charter aimed at identifying and promoting agricultural activities while preserving biodiversity. It is based on a global reasoning that takes into account all the interactions between land-water-plants-fauna and flora. In the cellar, only commercial yeasts are used and the white wines are aged for nine months, partly in barrels, partly in vats.
The vineyards extend over 8.70 hectares located in the small municipalities of Burgy, Lugny, Montbellet and Viré. The main grape varieties of the estate are Pinot Noir, Gamay and especially Chardonnay. The vines are grown using a sustainable cultivation method with a gradual return to mechanical cultivation and an approach that is respectful of the land and the terroir. The nature of the soils, predominantly clay-limestone, reveals a palette of fruity notes, bringing a mineral touch to the different vintages. Great importance is given to the winemaking methods, favoring cultivation practices and wine aging techniques, referring in particular to the vintage cuvée in 100% Chardonnay Crémant de Bourgogne. The estate belongs to the community of independent winemakers and is committed to an environmental approach having obtained the HVE level III certification, perpetuating the tradition while respecting existing knowledge.
