Foursquare

It is one of the youngest distilleries in the Caribbean, having been built in 1996 by the Seale family, who have however made the history of rum in Barbados over the last hundred years. Réginald Léon Seale began working as an apprentice blender in 1883, at the age of thirteen, learning from his father who had always done that job. After forty-three years he creates R. L. Seale & Co. Limited, starting his own business as a blender, bottler and merchant. Its main brand is the Calypso, which is made with rum from the West Indies Rum Refinery. The business continued with the arrival of his son Reginald Clarence in 1946, and his grandson David in 1962. In 1992 David's son Richard joined the company and, in 1993, the competitor Alleyne Arthur's, owner of the Doorly's brand and Old Brigand. The company moved to the Hopefield Plantation and, in 1996, construction began on the Foursquare Distillery, one mile from Hopefield, on the former site of the Foursquare Plantation and sugar factory, which operated from 1636 until 1984.
In recent years there has also been a close collaboration with Luca Gargano di Velier which turns into various bottlings of absolute level!
