Emidio Pepe
The art of winemaking in the Pepe family has been handed down for 4 generations. When one thinks of Abruzzo, it is impossible not to think of the great narrator of the history of the wine of this region: Emidio Pepe. Torano Nuovo is the background scenario where from the end of the 19th century the foundations of this magnificent story begin to be laid, which later, with Emidio, in 1964, took shape with the foundation of his company. Today it is the daughters Daniela and Sofia, with the nieces Chiara and Elisa who continue the plot, in which the common thread is always dictated by the great founder. Seas and mountains form the backdrop, giving a climate of perfect balance between marine sapidity and mountain freshness, which result in an ideal balance between sugar and acidity for the grapes.
The agricultural project of the Pepe family is not limited to wine, fortunately, in the Teramo hills, the phenomenon of monoculture is not as rooted as in other Italian wine-growing areas. Wheat and olive trees have therefore always surrounded the vineyards, but the desire to obtain healthy and nutritious products from untreated fields prompted the Pepes to go further, adding the production of pasta, oil and flour to the wine.
