The Macallan

The Macallan was one of the first licensed distillers in Scotland. Since then the brand has been internationally recognized as one of the best single malts in the world. The creation of The Macallan is based on the fundamental contribution of Spain, North America and Scotland, and their respective natural raw materials, combined with traditional methods and quality craftsmanship.
The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and teacher. The original name of the area was "Maghellan", from the Gallic word "magh", which means fertile land and "Ellan", from the name of the monk St. Fillan, closely linked to the church which stood on the grounds of the Macallan estate until 1400. The Farmers had been making whiskey on their Speyside estates for centuries, making use of the excess barley during the quieter winter months.
The Macallan's reputation is built on a product of exceptional quality and strong personality, founded on a set of guiding principles. From the place to the process, from the people to the passion... these are the basis from which the unique distillate originates
The Macallan.
