Varichon & Clerc
The maison, founded in 1901 in the town of Seyssel in the Ain department, is one of the oldest and most important wineries in the region producing Traditional Method sparkling wines. The official proclamation of the small AOC Seyssel dates back to 1943 and was the first sparkling wine AOC in France after Champagne. In 1996 the maison became part of the Boisset family of wineries. The Varichon & Clerc winery is located in the hills of Savoie, France, surrounded by the Alps and a continental micro-climate, characterized by significant temperature fluctuations, which favor the production of fragrant white wines with vibrant acidity.
The wines are made from the best local grapes: Altesse (famous for bringing freshness and floral notes), Molette and Jacquère (well known for their prominent earthy aromas). Varichon & Clerc Brut Blanc de Blancs is a classic method sparkling wine made from a blend of five different white grape varieties and aged for 15 months on the lees. Varichon & Clerce Dry Rosé is a lively and very pleasant classic method sparkling wine made from a cuvée of 4 varieties whose proportions vary from year to year and aged for 9 months on the lees.
