S.T Dupont
The S.T. Dupont was founded in 1872 by Simon Tissot Dupont, hence the initials "S.T.".
At first Simon created a company engaged in the design of carriages that disappeared following a fire. He subsequently purchased a workshop for the manufacture of quality document holders which he prospered. In 1919, at the age of 72, he bequeathed his company to his two sons, Lucien and André.
The company grew rapidly enough to employ around 250 people in just a few years. In 1923 the brothers decided to found a production factory in Faverges, which already possessed an industrial fabric consisting of various Lyon silk factories and the Swiss company Staubli.
Due to the world crisis of 1929, after a trip to the United States, Lucien decided to direct the company towards the production of luxury products destined for the international "Gotha". The quality of the products proved to be winning, thanks above all to the use of Chinese lacquer. During the war, since the buyers of necessary were less numerous, André suggested the idea of making petrol lighters. The patent was filed in 1941 in Annecy. At the end of the war, taking into account the changes that have taken place in the travel sector, the company S.T. Dupont oriented his production almost exclusively towards lighters.
The brand's prestige grew considerably on the occasion of the wedding of Princess Elizabeth of England, in 1947, when the President of the French Republic Vincent Auriol offered her a travel case signed S.T. Dupont.
In 1952 S.T.Dupont launched a new gas lighter. In 1966 the first adjustable lighter came out. In 1973, with the aim of expanding its product range, it manufactured the first fountain pen, under the name of “Classique”. In order to promote the offer, the company opened the first Parisian boutique on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in 1980. In 1987 a second one was opened on Avenue Montaigne, followed by a third one on Rue Saint-Germain-des-Prés. .
Other boutiques were then inaugurated all over the world including Hong Kong, Moscow, Milan and a few years ago also in Dubai (in the Burj Khalifa skyscraper) and in New York. At the same time, in recent years the company has expanded its production sectors by creating accessories of the highest level, perfumes, prêt-à-porter for men, jewelry and more.
