The name Zippo takes its inspiration from another invention that was all the rage in the 1920s/30s : the zipper, known as the Zipper.

The great practicality of these lighters is based on two main peculiarities: first, because they are able to produce a constant flame at any temperature and even in windy conditions while still using gasoline as the only fuel, and second, because of the simplicity of changing individual parts once worn out.
