La Crotta di Vegneron
The Crotta di Vegneron cooperative represents the ancient history of the small but great reality of the terroir of the Andret di Chambave side, in the Aosta Valley. The cooperative was born in 1980 from the union of 25 courageous winemakers in the area, who, decreasing year after year, wanted to preserve and bring back their hard work. Already five years later the members of the Crotta di Vegneron have become 80, reaching today one hundred members, with a large and esteemed successful production.
Thanks to its particularly dry climate, the area has always been favored for the cultivation of grapes, which, growing with a southern exposure, are born at an extreme slope between 500 and 850 meters above the sea. The low rainfall and high average daytime temperatures contrasted with cool nights, even cold in summer, give the wines truly unique aromatic characteristics, allowing the grapes to ripen without having to subject them to artificial treatments against parasites: nature gives harmony and balance to the hard work of man, proud of his territory.
The Cooperative boasts traditional native vines and collects bunches of grapes from two important production areas, from which the names of the Chambave and Nus designations of origin derive. In the wines of the Crotta di Vegneron you can perceive the strength and passion of the mountain spirit that animates these "campagnards", these winemakers: theirs is a heroic viticulture that offers aromas and flavors unique to the world, with a long and precious history.
