Maison Ruinart

Maison Ruinart was founded by the monk Dom Thierry Ruinart, who lived between the 17th and 18th centuries. A theologian and historian, but above all a brilliant, intuitive, and visionary, at just 23 years old, hearing about a new wine not yet called “Champagne” but particularly popular among Parisian aristocrats, he understood that what was then known as “vin de bulles,” or sparkling wine, would have a great future. This is where the history of what is the oldest Maison in the entire Champagne region began. A story that officially began on September 1, 1729, when Nicolas Ruinart, 33, a drapery merchant in Reims like his father and nephew of Dom Thierry Ruinart, opened his first accounting register dedicated specifically to “vin de bulles.”
