Cargo Cult

The Cargo Cult range is produced by independent bottler The Small Batch Spirits Company, thanks to the drive of Steve Magarry, former Distillery Manager at Beenleigh. The base is in Sydney, and the focus is on premium brands originating from Australia, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

The name Cargo Cult derives from a widespread belief in the islands of the South Pacific, born when American troops landed there during the Second World War, bringing with them an apparently inexhaustible quantity of never-seen goods: chocolate, medicines, chewing gum, jeeps , cigarettes. In the eyes of the people living on the islands, who had never had much contact with the outside world, this event took on an aura of miracle; this is how, when the troops left, the desire to see another cargo ship full of goods return spread among the islanders. The wish was expressed in a series of prayers to various deities so that the magical cargo would return: legend has it that in some of the most remote islands this cult is still active.
