This Cognac was produced by Marie Foucher of Ugni Blanc Trauben in Fins Bois (Cognac), France. It was stored for 27 years in a French oak barrel and was refilled in 2024 (04/2024) by Malternative Belgium with an alcohol content of 59.34%. A Charentais still was used for distillation.
Malternative Belgium writes about Cognac #39: "This Cognac was distilled in Foussignac in '96. The commune of Foussignac is located in the Fins Bois appellation. The 29 hectares of vineyards of this cognac house are located between Foussignac and Triac/Roissac, which is right on the border with the Grande Champagne appellation. The location, and therefore the terroir, of these vineyards ensures that these cognacs can be considered very aromatic and among the best of this cru. The vineyards were planted in the 1960s. It was Mrs. Foucher's father who started the cultivation and distillation, Marie took over in 1980. The third selection of Malternative Belgium from Marie's cellars, but this cognac is therefore the first distilled by Marie herself!"
On the nose fresh ginger and exotic spices, along with a light funky hint, floral notes and ripe fruits. On the palate it is firm very present, rich and robust with notes of sweet nectar, jasmine, lemon leaf and turmeric. The finish is fascinating with sweet pepper and cedar, tobacco and ripe white plums, long and fresh, balanced by notes of hazelnut and mint. The image on the label draws inspiration from the boundless passion for craftsmanship. “The Lost Horizon”, one of those rare moments when the boundary between heaven and earth blurs and the vineyards seem to float in a sea of fog and time expands!
