Distilled in 2003, Destino was selected by the main distillery and master blender of Foursquare Rum Distillery, Richard Seale, and initially aged for 12 years in Madeira barrels, before being aged for an additional two years in bourbon barrels. Highlighted by notes of vanilla and chocolate, the red and black fruits (currant, blackberry, blackcurrant) encountered during the tasting highlight the Madeira influence on the aromas and flavors. With a remarkably fresh expression, it enthusiastically demonstrates that time has no hold on it. The refined initial nose is fruity (blackcurrant, blackberry) and energetic. Allowed to breathe, it becomes vanilla and chocolate. The subtle attack reveals an explosion of fruit (plum, blackcurrant). It then becomes richer (fruit tart), as the juicy plum gives way to plum. The complex starts to finish is jammy (blueberry) and spicy (cinnamon) with notes of burnt caramel.
