Appleton Estate has just added two seriously aged rums, one from 1993 and the other from 2002, to its limited edition Hearts Collection. The Jamaican brand's series already includes 1994, 1995, 1999, 1983 and 2006 vintage rums, all distilled in a Forsyths pot still.

Appleton debuted the series in 2020 in partnership with rum expert Luca Gargano. Many of the releases in the collection sold out in seconds.

The Appleton Estate Hearts Collection 1993 (aged 29 years) and 2002 (aged 20 years) vintages are the sixth and seventh additions to the series and were selected from only 13 and 20 barrels, respectively. Master blender Joy Spence chose casks from a selection of nearly 200,000 casks aged in the Appleton Estate warehouses in Jamaica.

“Tropically aged rums develop richer, fuller flavors much more quickly than distillates aged in colder climates, so when you taste a 20+ year aged rum like our new Hearts Collection releases, it's a truly extraordinary,” Spence said. "I've long dreamed of releasing single vintage selections from the Appleton Estate, so it's been great to see the warm reception Hearts Collection releases receive year after year, around the world."

The 1993 vintage offers aromas of nutmeg and cinnamon, alongside hints of mint, warm butterscotch, toasted oak and honeyed vanilla. The 2002 bottling, meanwhile, brings orange blossom to the nose, while the palate finds molasses, warm vanilla, medium roast coffee and caramel, with a rich, smooth honey taste.
