In the past, “mesccia” was a blend of Caribbean rum—brought to Monaco by Genoese sailors—and European liqueurs such as Vermouth and Marsala. Today, the Principality of Monaco and Velier are reviving that 17th-century tradition with a modern twist, selecting high-quality rums and aging them in barrels that previously held Vermouth.
Mesccia Vieux was born out of the prince’s desire to recreate a product rooted in Monegasque history: a project he was deeply committed to and developed in collaboration with Luca Gargano, who is regarded worldwide as one of the leading experts on rum.
