We start 2025 with a truly sporty Armagnac, full of vigor and spirit: Charron 2004! Produced from Baco grapes from the Bàs Armagnac region. The relatively young Domaine de Charron, owned by the Lartigue family, produced Armagnac for the first time in 1985. Today the domaine is led by the wonderful and very nice Jean-Philippe Ballay, former rugby player and son-in-law of the founder Claude Lartigue. Of Baco's mere three hectares of vineyards, their annual production is between 5 and 10 barrels, so we're really talking about a micro-distillery here! In addition to many Armagnac domaines working with a mobile still, Charron distills its wine in-house, an 80-year-old column still. On the nose we perceive particular notes of bourbon and ripe cherries, immersed in vanilla cream! Precious spices like Ceylon cinnamon and cardamom add depth and complexity. The palate is powerful and lively with a heavy, yet totally balanced body, with a deep sweetness of cherry and raisin leading to a lingering, dry finish of hazelnut chocolate.
