Portofino Dry Gin was elected Ultra Premium distillate at The Spirits Business Gin Master Competition 2020 and stands as a distillate of excellence that surpasses the classic London Dry for 3 reasons.
Of course, among the gin labels there is a great variety of styles in which the common denominator is the characteristic flavor of juniper berries. But the inspiration of Portofino is linked to the very personal combination of botanicals capable of giving this national distillate a unique originality.
Handcrafted, Portofino Dry Gin is characterized by the scents of the Riviera, thanks to a bouquet of 21 ingredients with intense aromatic properties. Juniper, lemon, lavender, rosemary, marjoram, iris and roses are just some of the typical products of the area which, born under the Ligurian sun and hand-picked, emerge from the first sip.
The Pudel Srl company tells the appearance, the sensation on the palate, the finish and the overall quality of a distillate with a strong appeal drop by drop. So much to earn the highest score among the gin connoisseurs.
Because behind the label, a prominent protagonist among all the others, there is a story of passion, curiosity and great resourcefulness. In just 7 months Portofino Dry Gin was awarded at The Gin Guide Awards 2020 and with the Ultra Premium medal at the Gin Master Competition 2020. Organized by The Spirits Business, the competition saw 200 producers compete.
A real blind tasting challenge which, despite fierce competition, recognized the true quality of the selected product in Portofino Dry Gin. Furthermore, its continuous experimentation and great artisan identity were decisive factors for this Italian distillate judged among the best by David T Smith, writer and founder of the Craft Distilling Expo, and Melita Kiely, director of The Spirits Business and president of the event.
In recent years, the new national gins launched on the market have reached over 400, making the abundance of excellent raw materials, variety and differentiation their hallmarks. If you add to these the experience in the tradition of distillation, the genius and creativity typical of Italians, successful labels such as Portofino Dry Gin can only be born.
Produced by the Antica Distilleria Quaglia and distributed in Italy by Velier, is made with a historic copper alembic used in the past to distill liqueurs and grappas. Then follows a passage in an avant-garde Rotavapor that manages to extract the most delicate aromas of the Eastern Ligurian Riviera. A terroir that gives the typical notes of the hills of Portofino, as well as a universe of Mediterranean flavors evocative of traditional local cuisine.
