Habanos S.A.
Habanos S.A. is a Cuban company operating in the tobacco sector, holding the monopoly of the production and sale of famous Cuban cigars under the names of various brands.
In 1962 Fidel Castro decided to nationalize the Cuban cigar industry (one of the most profitable in the country) creating the state monopoly Cubatabacco. Thirty years later, the sector still had positive results, but the general situation faced a marked decline. In particular, enthusiasts complained of a drastic drop in the quality of the products and above all in their variety, due to the standardization of formats desired by the government. Added to this was the ever-increasing competitiveness of Nicaraguan and Dominican products (which had made use of professionals who had left Castro's regime), for years remained in the shadow of Cuban products and which now seriously threatened the primacy of the island.
In response to this situation in 1994 the government decided to separate the activities related to cigars of the Cuban state monopolist giving rise to Habanos S.A. and entrusting it with the task of reassessing Cuban products at the productive and image level.
From that moment on, the Cuban cigar becomes a real cult object with millions of enthusiasts around the world widening its production even in high-level smoke accessories all screened with the Habanos S.A. brands.
